The brief

  1. As a symbol of healing for both the website and the name, the tree of life has been chosen.
  2. Stylise the tree so that it is in keeping with the feel of the website and the ethos of the practice.

The response

  1. Neurological style lines were used as a medium for the design.
  2. Shades were employed to distinguish the smaller branches from the trunk.
  3. Roots symbolise nourishment and replenishment which feed life and energy into the tree.

The organisation

The South West Crayfish Project, led by Bristol Conservation and Science Foundation, was established to help protect the UK’s only native crayfish species from threats such as the deadly crayfish plague and invasive species. The UK’s only native freshwater crayfish is faced with severe decline. For more information see www.bcsf.org.uk

The brief

  1. Design two 2 metre stand-up banners for conferences and exhibitions.
  2. To increase awareness of endangered white-claw crayfish.
  3. To highlight how humans can help in the fight against their extinction.
  4. The two banners must work well as a pair but also individually.

The response

  1. Photographs were taken to highlight the reality of the threat to native crayfish.
  2. Prominent pictures of crayfish were incorporated so that it is obvious what the conservation project is for.
  3. The translucent water wave effectively contrasts with striking coloured bands that swoop from behind the crayfish at the bottom. These are eye-catching.

  1. Design a logo for the South West Crayfish Project.
  2. Discuss options and present a range of ideas to progress.
  3. Logo must fit in among a number of other stakeholder logos.
  4. Logo must be visible and have impact in a number of sizes and on a range of specified media.

The response

  1. "Crayfish in water" is progressed in consultation with the client, from concept through to final design.
  2. The Crayfish silhouette is carefully traced and attention is paid to colour of crayfish versus shade of waves.
  3. The waves of the water wrap around the crayfish as a symbol of protection.

  1. Create a logo articulating GEOEX’s innovative technological expertise, consultancy and geophysical services within the oil sector.
  2. Design a high impact front cover for the company brochure in line with the corporate brand image.
  3. Build a website for the organisation embracing the logo and corporate brand.

The response

  1. Logo: Strong black seismic traces hit the faulted geological trap, the crescents show global strategy and electrical pulses are a signature of the industry.
  2. Ship emerging from the world symbolises emerging technologies at the cutting edge of science.
  3. The website uses the logo colours, an aqua blue (sea) and black (oil) and stays true to the overall design and feel of the brand.

  2. The brand is preserved by consistent colours and front page style. The bold blue curve represents the Niger delta.

The response

  1. The corporate brand of the organisation is united by choice of colour. The ‘delta’ is represented by the blue curve which runs across the presentation.
  2. Overlaying this theme is the range of service offerings represented by compartmentalised text in a spider diagram style and labelled photographs.
